Boost your social media presence today using these tips...
Running a non-profit organization is not easy, while managing an online presence is not easy either, but in your line of work one is just as important as the other. In today's day and age if you don't have an online presence you don't exist. That may be taking it a little far, but if you're reading this you likely understand the need to have a strong social media presence. The question is how can you leverage your time and energy spent on social media?
It seems simple enough right? If you are going to interact with and/or entertain people online, you should be bringing them something useful. If your followers and your community is engaged and receiving useful and fun information from you, they are more likely to stick around and engage with your community that you're building. As a non-profit that could mean more donors, volunteers, or other resources that will help your organization thrive.
Social Media sites like Instagram, SnapChat, Pinterest, Facebook, YouTube, and Google+ make it easy to share pictures/videos and utilize visual story telling techniques. Most of us are visually wired, so it's easier to attract the attention of potential followers and community members by utilizing pictures and videos to get your message out.
Create a Social Media Community
Ric Dragon from DragonSearch has some great advice for building your non-profit social media community. “Create a volunteer social media corp. For nonprofits to be really effective at social media, the first step is teaching your volunteers to amplify your messages. By ‘amplifying,’ I mean sharing with their own social profiles and connections, not speaking on behalf of the non-profit. To do this well, you’ll want to create some method of getting the word out to the volunteers when you have content that needs sharing. As you start to see that some individuals are more adept than others, you might want to start training them to actually become community managers. Even if in a group of volunteers of, say 10 people, each person took one hour per week, it could have an enormous impact on your social media communications."
Share what you are doing, share what others are doing, share what you know, share what you would like to know, just plain share! In today's age of social media, as a non-profit organization, you need to share your message with as many people as possible and your online community is a great way to do so. You can even reach outside of your own online community by encouraging your followers to share, as well as sharing other organizations information and collaborating with them so that they are able and willing to share your information as well. It's pretty easy to get other non-profits to help you out, when you are willing to help them as well.
We hope that these tips are useful and that you are able to implement one or two things right away to boost your online social media presence and ultimately spread the word of your awesome non-profit organization!
